  238. UNICOM 3 corrects the following problems 
  239. found in UNICOM 2.0c:

  242. FIXED: UAE error related to color operation
  243. FIXED: Occasional lock-up on program close
  244. FIXED: Host mode modem no answer (2.0c fixed that)
  245. FIXED: YMODEM-G unreliable or didn't work
  246. FIXED: Printer Logging - just didn't work
  247. FIXED: Occasional screen line missing or drawn 
  248.        in the wrong row.
  249. FIXED: Utility Menu passing parameters (it didn't)
  250. FIXED: Script run command now accepts dos apps
  251. FIXED: Slow ASCII Transfer throughput
  252. FIXED: Slow KERMIT Transfer throughput
  253. FIXED: Font size selection window too small
  254. FIXED: Chat mode losing or not recognizing characters
  255. FIXED: All ANSI escape codes were not recognized
  256. FIXED: Script Variables didn't reset on following script.
  257. FIXED: File deleted after uploading.  The Zmodem user
  258.        option "unlink after transmission" was set in the
  259.        shareware distribution by mistake.

  263. UNICOM 3.0, please fax a detailed report to

  265. will be made to correct any problem found.

  268. & Upgrade Information for 2.0x Users
  269.  
  270. UNICOM 3.0 Upgrade announcents were mailed to all
  271. registered 2.0x users on 8/19/91.  If you did not
  272. receive your notice, use the order form provided
  273. with this distribution.  The same special upgrade
  274. pricing is listed in this form.
  275.  
  276. & UNICOM 3.0 Release Notes
  277.  
  278. 1) The VT102 special fonts may not be available when
  279.    using herc monochrome video mode -OR- if UNICOM
  280.    cannot reference a configuration file at
  281.    startup.
  282.  
  283. 2) The Microsoft 3.0 serial driver becomes unreliable
  284.    above 9600 baud.  If you switch to another
  285.    application that references a drive during
  286.    a file transfer, UNICOM may report CRC errors.
  287.    If your version of Windows does not correct this
  288.    problem, investigate TurboComm from BioEngineering.
  289.    It is an alternative port driver that supports
  290.    the 16550 and higher baud rates.
  291.  
  292.  
  293. 3) Screen Savers and UNICOM seem to dislike each other.
  294.    UNICOM may not be able to paint it's screen properly
  295.    when these kick in.  You should disable any screen
  296.    saver when performing data transfers since it will
  297.    likely affect performance. It is suggested that you
  298.    set the screen saver idle detection time to a that
  299.    greater that the expected file transfer time.
  300.  
  301.  
  302. 4) Dialing directory file sizes cannot exceed 64k.
  303.    If UNICOM complains of low memory when loading
  304.    a directory, break up the directory into 
  305.    smaller directory files.
  306.  
  307. 5) Interrupt driven receive queue size is 
  308.    24k if using standard or enhanced mode and
  309.    12k if running in real mode.  The queue size
  310.    was reduced for real mode due to memory
  311.    restrictions.
  312.  
  313. 6) Script Commands
  314.  
  315.    FileLength:  The example for this command is incorrectly
  316.    listed in the manual:  lSize = FileSize("messages.dat")
  317.    It should read: lSize = FileLength("messages.dat");
  318.    This appears correct in the online help.
  319.  
  320.  
  321.    StrIsHex: is described incorrectly in the manual.
  322.    It incorrectly states that chars A-Z or a-z are
  323.    valid hex characters.  It should read 'A'-'F' and
  324.    'a'-'f' in addition to 0-9.
  325.  
  326. 7) Fonts
  327.  
  328.    Type managers let you add many fonts to Windows.
  329.    UNICOM cannot handle more than 38 fonts and
  330.    20 sizes of each.  If you reach this limit,
  331.    VT102 special fonts will not be available
  332.    in UNICOM.
  333.  
  334. 8) Host Mode - Shell To DOS
  335.  
  336.    Your computer must be operating in 386 enhanced mode
  337.    to support this feature.  
  338.  
  339.               IMPORTANT 
  340.     
  341.    Make sure the communication port device contention 
  342.    is set to "Never Warn" in the 386 enhanced
  343.    section of the control panel.  If this is not
  344.    done, a message box will be displayed to the
  345.    host computer screen anytime the remote user
  346.    shells to DOS.  This will lock the host unless
  347.    someone is available to reply to the message
  348.    box.
  349.  
  350.  
  351. & Character Translation Tables
  352.  
  353. UNICOM supports character translation for incoming
  354. and outgoing characters.  When you save your setup
  355. with the Save Setup menu pick, UNICOM writes the
  356. contents of the current translation tables to the
  357. file UNICOM.XLT.
  358.  
  359. Upon each program start, UNICOM looks for this file
  360. (UNICOM.XLT). If found, its contents are loaded into
  361. memory. 
  362.  
  363. Foreign language users:  Please send the translation
  364. file you construct for your language to Data Graphics
  365. so it may be included in future releases.  
  366.  
  367.  
  368. & Host User database
  369.  
  370. The file hostuser.dat contains user information for
  371. those authorized to access your machine via host mode.
  372. This file may be changed or altered by remote users 
  373. with the appropriate access level.  You may wish to 
  374. make this file read only and/or hidden with the dos
  375. attrib command. Hostuser.dat is updated when you
  376. select save setup from the setup menu.

  391. & Converting your 2.0 Dial Directory to 3.0
  392.  
  393. UNICOM 3.0 will convert your old 2.0 directory
  394. to the new 3.0 format.  Just load it in by
  395. activating the directory, then save it.
  396. Editing and saving a 2.0 directory before 
  397. doing so could cause corrupt entries to appear.
  398.  
  399. The conversion process enlarges the file size.
  400. Be careful not to exceed 64k.  If so, break up
  401. the directory into multiple smaller directories.

  409. those who took the time to call are now implemented
  410. in this version.  Much credit goes to the many
  411. of you who registered UNICOM 1 and 2. Because of
  412. your registrations, this slick new version has become
  413. a reality.
